František Vendiš

  • 1923: Born in Czechoslovakia.
  • Apprenticeship as an electrician
  • 1942: Deployed to forced labour at the Siemens-Schuckertwerke
  • Housed in the Arbeiterstadt “Große Halle”, later in the Siemens camp in Haselhorst
  • Comparatively good working conditions as a trained electrician
  • November 1943: Escaped for home after a severe bomb attack
  • Arrested and sent to labour re-education camp Mährisch Ostrau-Witkowitz in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia
  • End of 1943: Deported again to Berlin for forced labour at Siemens, housed in Staaken
  • Beginning of 1945: Attempted to flee again, repeated imprisonment
  • Liberation and return to Czechoslovakia, worked as an electrician
  • 1996: Testimony for the Berliner Geschichtswerkstatt
  • 1997: Visited Berlin
